5.0 What is the difference between a clam shell stretcher and a scoop stretcher? Print

Modified on: Mon, Feb 5, 2018 at 4:30 PM

The clam shell stretcher and the scoop stretcher are basically the same.  These stretchers are also referred to as the scoop type stretcher.

The stretcher can be split in half length-wise to get underneath the casualty from both sides of the body.  This will reduce the amount of head, neck, and spine movement of the casualty; thus minimize the potential risk of injury to the casualty.
