Thanks for your interest in our program and explaining what you are looking for.
To clarify, our “certification” is not an official dog training program that is accepted outside of the work that St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Volunteers do. The Evaluations that we ask our handlers to do is an assessment when onboarding to be a volunteer for St. John Ambulance. We do not sign off or authorize that our program has trained any dogs in our program. These dogs get assessed by our volunteer Evaluators and to see if they meet our standards.
Handlers who wish to certify that their dog for their personal use can consider looking into the Canadian Kennel Club’s Canine Good Neighbour Test. Some facilities will accept this certification to cover their liability insurance. Visit the Canadian Kennel Club website to learn more about exercises which are similar, but not identical, to those conducted by St. John Ambulance evaluators. http://www.ckc.ca/en/Raising-My-Dog/Responsible-Ownership/Canine-Good-Neighbour-Program
Hope that helps and best of luck with your pet therapy needs!
