The person needs to take the EMR course first. Some agencies (such as JIBC) have an accelerated course (also known as a bridging course) to shorten the classroom time for people with a valid OFA 3 certificate.
The classroom time for the SJA course is already short compared to other EMR courses; therefore SJA does not offer an accelerated or bridging version of the EMR course. Once the student successfully completes the EMR course, the student has 12 months to get their license from the BC Ministry of Health Licensing Branch. Students will go through separate licensing exam process with the Licensing Branch.
The person with a valid OFA 3 certificate have 2 options to take the EMR:
- Take the EMR course with SJA; or
- 30 hours online work + 70 hours in class
- Take the EMR bridging or accelerated course with another agency
- see chart below for comparisons between SJA and other agencies
