There are 3 hazard classes or levels: A, B, and C. Class A hazard work involve high risk activities and Class C hazard work involve low risk activities.
There are 3 types of workplaces:
- Close workplaces requires up to 20 minutes surface travel time to a medical facility.
- Distant workplaces requires more than 20 minutes surface travel time to a medical facility.
- Isolated workplaces are:
- located more than 40 minutes surface travel time from a medical facility, or
- is not served by an all-weather road designed and maintained to a standard that permits an ambulance to travel at a speed of 50 km/h or greater.
Class C hazard work
Class C hazard work means:
- Work of an administrative, professional or clerical nature;
- Work that does not require substantial physical exertion or exposure to hazardous conditions, work processes or substances; and
- Any other work involving only activities that are, in the opinion of a safety officer, similar to the activities of work described in paragraph (1) or (2).

If work activities in different hazard classes occur simultaneously at a workplace, the whole workplace is subject to the most stringent of the Tables in this Schedule that apply to those hazard classes. |
Class B hazard work
Class B hazard work means work involving
- Recreational activities, including:
- guiding and outfitting,
- tourism operations, and
- campgrounds;
- The operation of:
- medical services or facilities,
- recreational facilities,
- extended care services or facilities,
- social services programs,
- facilities providing accommodation,
- retail stores, and
- greenhouses;
- Food and beverage preparation and sales;
- Fuel yards and fuel distribution;
- Small appliance service and repair;
- Janitorial services;
- Laundry services;
- Motion picture production;
- Moving and storage;
- Warehouse operations;
- Delivery services; and
- Any other work that, in the opinion of a safety officer, is neither Class A hazard work nor Class C hazard work.

Class A hazard work
Class A hazard work means work involving
- Construction, demolition and associated work, including work on:
- industrial or commercial process facilities,
- pipelines and related gas or oil transmission facilities,
- commercial, residential and industrial buildings,
- roads, highways, bridges and related installations,
- sewage gathering systems,
- utility installations, and
- water distribution systems;
- The operation and maintenance of:
- food packing or processing plants,
- electrical transmission, generation and distribution systems,
- foundries,
- industrial heavy equipment, and repair and service facilities,
- automotive repair and service facilities,
- sawmills and lumber processing facilities,
- lumber yards,
- machine shops,
- metal fabrication shops,
- gas, oil and chemical process plants,
- laboratories,
- steel and other base metal processing plants,
- waste water processing facilities,
- solid waste facilities, and
- industrial process facilities not elsewhere specified;
- Woodland operations;
- Wildland fire operations;
- Gas and oil well drilling and servicing operations;
- Mining and quarrying operations;
- Mineral exploration;
- Seismic operations;
- Detonation of explosives; and
- Any other work that, in the opinion of a safety officer, is similar to the work listed above.
